I’m Nana, lovely to meet you! I’m a speech-language pathologist with a special passion for working with adults, and the lead designer and developer of the Sanapsis apps.
I’ve worked with adults with neurological conditions since 2004. The idea for Sanapsis came straight out of everyday therapy work: the first Sanapsis app was built as an in-house tool for Puheklinikka, our practice specializing in adult neurological speech therapy. We wanted a tool that would make planning and delivering therapy easier, with plenty of ideas and ways of working, and quick access to materials that reflect our clients’ own daily lives and surroundings. Just as importantly, it had to allow flexible goal setting and support meaningful interaction between therapist and client.
After many rounds of testing and development, SanapsisPro gradually became the tool we had been aiming for: clear, versatile support for flexible, interactive therapy. We added detailed instructions and lots of ideas for different ways to use the exercises, and then it was ready to share with colleagues. The first version of SanapsisPro was released on the App Store in 2012. In 2021, we added Sanapsis+ to the family, an app designed for clients to practice independently.
Much of the development of the Sanapsis apps has been done together with our wonderful clients. If you look closely, you may even spot a few familiar faces from Puheklinikka in the materials. That’s the best proof we can offer that the materials were designed, developed, and tested for real-life, active speech therapy!
